Can I get paid in cheeseburgers?
One of my favorite blogs is Screw You! because Kathy often gives us the lowdown on some of the low paying jobs out there for us writers.
I found a great one today. From Elance:
I need a writer to write 250 word articles. I will pay $1 per article.
It’s unclear whether they need articles of 250 words in length or just 250 articles written in Word. A buck per article sounds rather high though. And they really shouldn’t have to use up their entire budget on the first thing people are going to read when they visit their web site — not in this economy anyway.
So, I thought of making them a deal whereby they could buy me a 99¢ Jr. Bacon Cheeseburger from Wendy’s Super Value Menu for each article written. That way I wouldn’t have to worry about dinner for awhile.
I’ve also thought that a good writing niche for you to consider might be writing those pesky job descriptions for companies so they can post them on job boards. After all, they are trying to attract the best help, right? Here’s one I found that could use a little tweak or two.
I am looking to have probable 5 articles written. I would like to have them written about different topics that I will provide all with a lifestyle theme as I would like it to promote a lifestyle opportunity I represent. These articles will then be submitted via submittion services. Any questions please ask.
Um, yes I have a question. What the hell are you trying to say? I see English words, but it’s almost like I need a Captain Midnight decoder ring to figure out what they mean.

I love that. If anyone takes that on more than one time, shame on them.
I put up a post (http://www.vigorouswriting.net/2007/12/do-not-write-for-3-article-unless.html) on why you shouldn’t write for $3 articles, but $1? Just do some pro bono work for the clips and be done with it.
January 9th, 2008 at 4:34 pmI agree Jesse. You’d be better off doing some pro bono stuff for a good charity or something. The sad fact is that, if you go by the number of bids on these types of projects, there are plenty of people who are trying to get them.
I mean, you’re actually better off financially if you were to take up a minimum wage job and put in 30 hours a week.
