Why Bly is the Greatest

They’re a dying breed, but I love people from the old school. People who spent years honing their craft to rise to the top of their field. It’s often to them I turn when I’m looking for an answer rather than to a blogger who’s only been at it for a few months.

Bob Bly is the man who pushed me in the direction of writing and there’s really no one in this business I respect more than Bob.

And it was great to read his latest post about Facebook.

I’m not down with most of this social media stuff. I really don’t see how it helps one get business. In fact, I think that if you’re spending your time blogging, Twittering and keeping up with all the social media outlets, you’re not working.

Judging from Bob’s post and his comments, it looks as if that’s about right.

    Mike,

I could not agree with you more (about Bob). I was thinking the other day that I want to write a post honoring the dying breed of bloggers who still have a some class left in them. People like Bob Bly and Joan Stewart the Publicity Hound.

Just the other day I was pondering why one high profile blogger would brag about how he created a post made from quotes that he had already posted on Twitter.

I went over to Twitter to see what all the fuss was about but the page took far too long to load - and when it finally did, it was just painful having to wade through other people’s brain dumpings in search of a nugget of even slight interest.

Actually, now that I’m thinking about it, Twitter is the epitome of that thing I hate - when people stream their own consciousness out loud! You know EXACTLY what I mean!

I do know what you mean. I also saw a lengthy post on a popular blog about how the blogger hit the wrong keys when typing a greeting on Twitter and created a “new” word. He, and his readers, were astounded by this amazing feat. Oh well, such is the web.

Hahahaa.. I laughed aloud at that one.

I bought a book by Bob Bly when I became interested in freelance writing last year.

I checked out the link I use Facebook I was able to reconnect with a lot of my high school and college pals that I had been trying to get in contact with so that was helpful. I ignore all the other applications. I rarely log on since I receive an email when an old buddy contacts me. That’s all I use it for. Regarding Twitter I don’t use it.
